The Fed said economic activity is still expanding at a solid pace, inflation remains somewhat elevated, and it kept the federal funds target range at 3.5% to 3.75% on March 18.

BLS reported February CPI up 2.4% year over year and core CPI up 2.5%. The February jobs report showed payrolls down 92,000 and unemployment at 4.4%. On the housing supply side, Census/HUD said January housing starts were 1.487 million annualized, up 7.2% from December, while building permits were 1.376 million.

The macro picture is mixed. Inflation is cooler than it was, but not cool enough to guarantee lower rates fast. Construction picked up, which helps supply, but labor softening could make the housing recovery uneven.

The latest economic data is giving the housing market mixed signals right now.

📊 The Fed is holding rates steady, but not cutting yet
📉 Inflation is cooling—but still not low enough
👷 Jobs are softening, with payrolls down and unemployment rising
🏗️ Meanwhile… housing construction is picking up

So what does this actually mean?

👉 Buyers may see more inventory coming soon
👉 But mortgage rates may not drop quickly
👉 And the market recovery could feel uneven

Bottom line:
This is a transition market, not a crash or a boom.

If you’re buying or selling, strategy matters more than ever.

Engagement Prompt

  • “Are you waiting for rates to drop before making a move?”

  • “Do you think the market will heat up or cool down next?”

  • “Would more inventory make you more likely to buy?”
